Marcelitte Failla is a Black and biracial scholar whose interests lie at the intersection of Africana Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Black Religion. Her current book project examines how Black witches utilize their Africana religions to manifest their desired lives, heal old emotional wounds, and cultivate an internal power unencumbered by the nation-state. Marcelitte is an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at North Carolina State University.
As a practitioner of Ifá and Hoodoo, Marcelitte often holds ceremonial space in academic and community settings. Marcelitte has contributed to The Black Scholar, Liturgy, and The Witch Studies Reader. She is also the recipient of the Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowship. Marcelitte currently lives with her partner and two cats in Durham, NC.
